Reiki

‘Reiki’ translates as ‘Healing Energy of the Universe’. It is useful as relaxation and therapeutic healing technique, and is a very gentle touch therapy. Considered complementary alternative medicine, Reiki is classified by the National Institutes of Health as a ‘biofield energy’ technique. The purpose of Reiki is to aid in relaxation, self-healing, and to improve the energy flow in body, mind, and spirit.

Reiki is a series of hand placements on or just above the body. Typical hand placements follow the hormonal centers of the body. Sessions are offered with the client fully clothed, lying down in bed or on massage table or while sitting in a chair. People generally report a calming effect; some report an experience of various ‘sensations’ during a session. People of all ages may enjoy a Reiki session.

Reiki is the fastest growing complementary modality due to its ease of use and gentle, helpful nature. It is not a massage; there is no manipulation. Anyone of any age may enjoy Reiki. Many nurses as well as other health care professionals are now using this healing art using it in hospitals and health care settings throughout the country.
